It’s been a really good week! I can’t say a lot has happened, but what has happened has been good.
I’ll start with a miracle.
On Saturday we had no appointments or anything, so we were just going to go housing* all day, but a little before lunch we get a call from a member, Tanaka shimai [Sister]. One of her friends–an investigator whom we haven’t met with in over a month (since before I got here)–suddenly had an opening in her schedule and wanted to meet with us! So we were able to have a lesson (with a member present, no less) at the last minute.
The lesson went well, and we’ll be meeting the investigator (Shigematsu-san) again on Friday when we have Junkai [splits] (with the Zone Leaders this time).
*housing: going from door to door in order to find potential invesigators
There’s also an investigator we’ve been visiting named Masu-san, who’s turning eighty-eight soon. Even though he’s way old, he’s super genki [energetic], and he really understands what we teach. He used to work with electronics or something, so he likes to make comparisons between electricity and the gospel, especially in regards to not dismissing something because you can’t see it.
Other than that, we made our regular visits to the Yoshimatsu couple and the Tanaka couple. We’ve been emphasizing prayer and the Book of Mormon with both Yoshimatsu and Tanaka kyoudai [brother]. We’ll find out the real effect of the lessons when we follow up next week, but I think they went well.
Other than that, we have a pretty strong potential investigator whom we’ll visit soon, so hopefully something comes of that.
We’ve also been working with members more, and we have some potential referrals coming our way. I say potential referrals because in all the training we’ve been getting on working with members, the emphasis has really been on helping members make the first step in contacting people, instead of just getting a list of names to visit.
Well that’s about it for this week, other than I’ve been studying, of course. Just this week I’ve started rereading the Book of Mormon, and it never gets old. I’m also studying the Doctrine and Covenants.
In addition to that I’ve been ponderizing*, but it’s still a challenge for me to extend study outside of study time (if that makes sense).
*ponderizing: a “combination of 80% extended pondering and 20% memorization”, where a scripture verse is chosen weekly and placed where the person will see it each day. This verse is to be read or thought of several times each day and its meaning pondered throughout the week for additional spiritual growth and uplifting moments. The members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints were given the invitation to “ponderize” in the October 2015 semi-annual General Conference of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
I love you all!
Have a great week!
